MATH 427 FOUNDATIONS OF GEOMETRY
(Euclidean and various non-Euclidean geometries and their development from postulate systems.)
Grading policy:
The two lowest HWA and quiz scores will be dropped; no makeups.
The total score is the highest of the following three percentages:
- X = your total homework and quizzes percentage, capped at 70%.
- Y = your percentage on midterm exams capped at 80%, plus X/10;
- Z = your final (oral) exam percentage, plus MAX{ X/10, Y/10 }.
In addition, each successfully completed extra-credit problem adds 4% to the total course score.
- 90% guarantees "A".
- 80% guarantees "B".
- 70% guarantees "C".
- 60% guarantees "D".
The lowest 3% points of a range will be minus and the
highest 3% points of a range will be plus.
HWA/Quizzes/Midterms/Final/Extra
- HWA: usually assigned on Wed and usually is due next Mon.
- Quizzes: once a week, usually on Wed; it is always based on previous HWA.
- Midterm exams:
- 1st midterm: Fri Oct 16 (subject to change), in class.
- 2nd midterm: Fri Dec 04 (subject to change), in class.
- Final oral exam: TBD (Dec 14--18)
You will have one hour to prepare a mini-presentation on one random topic (ticket).
The examiner may interrupt your presentation and ask additional questions.
If your answer is satisfactory, you will be given an additional problem for a perfect score.
- Extra credit problems: The solutions should be presented orally.
Only the first solution will be graded.
The solutions will NOT be graded after Fri, Nov 20.
